What’s the inspiration behind the new collection?
The beautiful art and prints of Laura Park, and the mindset that tile is art for your home.
How did The Tile Shop x Laura Park collaboration come about?
I built a new home back in 2020 and have been slowly decorating it. When it came time to do my bedroom, I wanted to add some special pillows with an artistic vibe for color on top of my white linens. Searching for these, I came across Laura’s website—and fell in love with her work.
I purchased a pair of Martini Olives pillows and set them out. I have a view to my bedroom from my living room, and I would look at the pillows every day and think, “Wow, that print would be so gorgeous on tile.” I thought this for about a year, and finally decided to reach out to Laura’s team to see if they would be interested in collaborating.
What about the collection feels fresh and exciting?
Using Laura’s original works of art for the patterned tiles was very fun—her brushstrokes are visible on the finished pieces. The sense of movement and artistic appeal they add to The Tile Shop’s selection stands out. Also, the color and pattern of the Seaside Marble wall and floor tiles are a perfect combination of cheery and soothing!
What piece are you most excited to unveil?
The Martini Olives tile—it’s so fun to see the concept that was in my mind for a couple of years come to life. This collaboration is one of The Tile Shop’s most extensive, with 21 pieces, so I’m also excited to see how our customers and teams use the core pieces and the patterns together.
Tell us about the materials in this collection. Are there certain materials used throughout, and/or a material that is a highlight on a particular piece?
Both the prints and marble-look tiles are made from porcelain, so they can be installed on walls and floors. This versatility offers greater flexibility in design and makes them easy to care for.
The Bespoke wall tiles are made of ceramic and feature a handmade look, complementing the artistic aesthetic of the collection. We introduced three colors—Aegean Blue, Taupe and White—in three shapes that are modular, so you can create custom patterns with them. I expect many will use the Bespoke square tiles in a checkerboard layout, as it’s very popular right now.
How do you feel this collection pushes The Tile Shop’s brand forward?
This marks our first collaboration with an artist, and Laura’s collection introduces exclusive pieces that offer our customers a distinctive, one-of-a-kind tile experience.
Additionally, the blue and green color palettes are inspired by Laura’s artwork and convey a sense of happiness. One of my core beliefs is that the design choices you make for your home should invigorate you and add joy to your life.
How does the collection build on or complement The Tile Shop’s other offerings?
We want to fill “white space” when entering into a collaboration and designing the tiles for it. Laura’s artwork and story are distinctive and align well with the aesthetic preferences of our customers, particularly in terms of color and pattern design.
How do you envision designers using this collection?
I hope they use these tiles to enhance their artistic expression and create a distinctive look. I’ve already seen some incredible installations from designers on Instagram—and they do just that! I would also love to see designers use the tiles in combination with Laura’s other products, like her art and textiles. There’s so much beauty in her designs.
